I would LOVE to hear about some of the things you're working toward this year! Something I have been contemplating on A LOT, is habits, patterns, routines, how we set them into motion and also, how we change them when they have grown stagnant or no longer support our next goals and the evolution of our best self. Do you feel me? Do you have routines, patterns, and habits that you set into motion days, weeks, months, maybe years ago, that have served you REALLY well? Are they still working? Or do they need a REFRESH? For me personally, I was getting in a bit of A RUT. I LOVE a good morning routine. Anyone who knows me well will tell you, I begin my day with a pen, a journal, and a few inspirational/educational books. I get up from bed, make my favorite latte, and then settle into a cozy seat to pray, read, and journal. And I have been doing this FOR YEARS. And it's amazing and has served my life incredibly well. Except the last 6 months or so I began to notice myself growing a bit bored, not as eager or excited for this morning routine, not getting a whole lot out of it, and yet I just kept doing it because, well, that's what I do. You see, there are some brand new goals I have for myself that actually require me to do something different than I have been doing. So my attachment to my regular morning routine needed to be addressed. Why do we continue to do something when it isn't working anymore? Perhaps it's comfortable? Perhaps we don't know what else to do? Perhaps we're self-identified with the current habit or routine because we have felt proud for so long that we achieved such discipline with it? Perhaps we're simply unwilling to put in the extra effort it takes to investigate the situation and implement the necessary changes that actually begin to move the needle each day toward what we say we want? In my case, it was ALL OF THE ABOVE ;-) However, for me, there comes a point when I just get OVER being stuck. It's boring. It drains me. And it's a waste of time. So I used my journaling practice to do some digging. I wrote down ALL THE GOALS I had and then what I needed to be doing on a daily basis to make progress. And I realized - WOW - I have a LOT on my plate. It's no wonder I'm not getting anywhere with my goals. I was trying to mange it all in my head without having A SOLID PLAN for achieving things. So I created a schedule for each day of the week so I know EXACTLY what I need to be doing, and when I need to be doing it. Yep, I FINALLY became willing to admit that if it isn't on my calendar, it most likely won't get done. Then I began to prepare my mind (and my calendar) for the week ahead, knowing that I was about to face a pattern interrupt. I know this can initially feel uncomfortable. I knew I would face resistance. But I also knew that if I don't do things differently, then nothing will actually change. I still let myself have 1-2 mornings a week of my sitting practice. But most days I get up and out of the house immediately. I go tend to my mental, physical, and spiritual health from 7:30am-10am by meeting with mentors, hitting the gym and/or getting my yoga practice in. Then I get straight to work, focusing specifically on the projects I have committed to being successful with. EVERYTHING is time blocked! This way I know if I can say yes or no to an invitation I may get from a friend or a colleague. You see, I had been saying yes to things I really didn't have time for. Not in this current season of my life. I am currently in training for Dancing with the Vero Stars which requires hours of vigorous practice and fundraising. I am taking a special group of humans on yoga retreat in Portugal with my business partner in August, and we are actively in the pursuit of bringing in the next 5 people to join us. I am currently in the process of enrolling women into my annual women's group, Abundance Accelerator. I am coaching my 1-1 clients. I am teaching yoga classes. I am hosting fundraising events. And on and on, you get the point! Then there's family, rest, church, exercise, volunteering, etc etc. My point is this... YOU HAVE A LOT TO OFFER. YOU HAVE A VISION. YOU HAVE MANY SKILLS, GIFTS, TALENTS THAT WANT TO BE USED AND SHARED. YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO BE EVEN BETTER TODAY THAN YOU WERE YESTERDAY. AND - THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT WILL TRY AND DISTRACT YOU FROM WHAT MATTERS MOST. I know, I get it. This is why I encourage and invite you to sit yourself down. To GET HONEST with yourself. Pray for COURAGE. And DIG DEEP. What do you need to start doing differently? What needs your attention, DAILY, so you actually see things change? Stop waiting for tomorrow or next week or next year. That is BOR-ING. Today is the day to make a commitment to yourself, to make the most of this life, one day at a time. So tell me, what are you working toward this year?
